Health Insurance Renewal

All Irvine Valley College international students must buy the approved insurance plan through Relation Insurance Services (SOCCCD Board Policy 5604). Other plans are not accepted. A hold is placed on all student accounts preventing registration until proof of health insurance payment is received.

The costs for the 2020-2021 health insurance are as follows:

* Students have the option of purchasing the annual plan at this time or purchasing the fall option at this time. If purchasing fall only, the spring/summer plan must be purchased prior to spring 2021 registration.

The costs for the 2021-2022 health insurance are as follows:

How to Renew Your Health Insurance

  1. Visit www.4studenthealth.com/ivc to purchase the appropriate semester plan.  The fall 2021 and annual purchase options will be available on May 7.
  2. Our office will automatically receive an email of the receipt.  The hold will be lifted within 24 hours of receipt.

Health Insurance Exemption Request 
Fall 2021:

Due to COVID-19, IVC will offer a Health Insurance Exemption for qualifying students who are currently OR plan to be outside of the USA for the entire fall 2021 semester.

Students who will remain in the United States in the fall 2021 semester ARE REQUIRED to purchase the IVC health insurance plan in order to be eligible to register for the fall 2021 semester.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Please read the following instructions carefully.

Eligibility:

Students currently OUTSIDE the US must submit the 2 documents below:

  1. IVC Health Insurance Exemption Request Form*: Completed and e-signed. 
  2. I-94 Travel History:  To be obtained at:  https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/.  Click on the "View Travel History" tab and submit this document to verify your departure date from the US.

Students currently INSIDE the US must submit the 2 documents below:

  1. IVC Health Insurance Exemption Request Form* Completed and e-signed.
  2. Copy of PURCHASED plane ticket:  with US departure date listed on OR before January 19, 2021.

How to Apply:

  1. Documents must be sent in .PDF format to dchang24@ivc.edu.
  2. Students must submit the Health Insurance Exemption documents from their “@ivc.edu” email account ONLY.  Requests sent from personal emails will not be accepted.
  3. The last day to submit the Health Insurance Exemption request is August 23, 2021.
  4. Students must remain outside of the United States for the entire fall 2021 semester to be eligible for the Health Insurance Exemption.

Registration holds:  Requests will be reviewed by the International Office and, if approved, registration holds will be removed within 24 hours of receipt and students will be notified by email.

Refunds: If the request is approved, refunds will be applied to the credit card used for the insurance purchase within 14 days of the approval email sent to the student 

I Have not Purchased my Insurance for Fall 2021 and am Outside of the United States:

If your request is approved, you will receive an approval email from the International Office AND your insurance hold will be removed from your MySite account allowing for registration within 24 hours of approval.  Please do not contact our office before that time period regarding your insurance hold; email inquiries received prior to our processing window will not be responded to.

Can I submit the Health Insurance Exemption request before I leave the United States?

Yes; however, you must show proof of PURCHASE of a plane ticket showing a departure date on or before August 23, 2021.  We are not able to accept reservations, but require proof of purchase of your plane ticket. 

Is there a deadline to file the Health Insurance Exemption request?

YES! August 23, 2021 is the last day to request a Health Insurance Exemption.  Requests received after that date will not be processed.  

If I return to the US during the fall 2021 semester, do I need to purchase health insurance?

Yes; any F-1 visa student who is physically present in the US at any time during the fall 2021 semester is required to purchase the IVC health insurance in order to enroll at the college.

The Health Insurance Exemption process is only applicable to the fall 2021 semester due to COVID-19.  When the college returns to an in-class format, F-1 visa students will be required to purchase IVC health insurance per Board Policy 5604.​​
